Can't upload Traject Vrij abonnement on my card

I have a jaartrajectabonnement which expires next week. Customer service advised me to buy a trajectvrij abonnement online which I did and my first monthly payment was debited.

I checked my NS account and it says:
"Uw bestelling met referentienummer [removed] is verwerkt. U kunt uw Traject Vrij vanaf nu ophalen bij de NS-kaartautomaat of één van de andere ophaalpunten."

When I go to upload it on my existing jaartrajectabonnement card, the traject vrij abonnement does not appear in the list of options. I tried yesterday and again today. I had no problems uploading anything before. Am I doing something wrong?

Dear NaomiH, Welcome to our NS Service Forum. I am sorry to read that it was not possible for you to activate your product at the ticketmachine. In the case that your OV-Chipcard is defect, you need to ask for a duplicate at the Customer Service of the OV-Chipcard. When you recieved the duplicate of your current card, you can still activate your subscription.

Answering my own question: I asked the controller on the train home tonight, he checked my card.
The card is defective and I will have to request a new one.

For other people who still have the old style abonnement card. I think it's very rare that a card becomes faulty but it's a good idea to check it. The controllers on the train usually just look at the old cards and don't scan them. Just ask them to scan the card if you have any doubts.
