I have a Dal Vrij subscription and have to catch the train daily at 9:02 and the distance from the gate to the platform is quite far. Is it possible to check in at either 8:58 or 8:59 and still get the discount?

Yes. You can check in from 8.55h forwards and still get the discount. Be careful and check the time on the gate, one second earlier you don't get the discount.
