@Tochjo

Why is there not a direct connection between Purmerend and Utrecht daily? Many people work in the science park that lives in Purmerend, which would be a great relief. Also, adding more direct connections to Amsterdam Central would be wiser.

The Intercity Enkhuizen-Hoorn should make a stop at Purmerend.

How can I advise the council?

There are no trains to Amsterdam Central in Purmerend as they were hardly used in the past.

Every neighborhood in Purmerend has direct buses to Amsterdam via a fast bus lane, so most passengers prefer to take the bus near their home instead of travelling to the station and taking a train.

That's not really true. The main reason is the policy of regional authorities to force people going to Amsterdam to use buses as much as possible.

People with a discount or free pass for the train however get additional costs if they have to travel by bus.

There used to be an all-stations service between Enkhuizen and Amsterdam Central. NS rerouted that to Schiphol to alleviate congestion at Amsterdam Central (and to use the expensive new viaduct at Amsterdam Sloterdijk). There are now several Intercity’s during rush hour between Enkhuizen and Amsterdam Central which stop in Purmerend.

of a connection to Utrecht, there should be a cross-platform transfer in Zaandam on to the Intercity to Maastricht.

As far as we can see, there is interest by people living in the area of Purmerend to get transferred to Amsterdam Central and Utrecht directly by train. So, an extra stop would help both the citizens of Purmerend and the train company. This will benefit the situation https://www.rodi.nl/purmerend/325159/station-purmerend-krijgt-in-de-spits-intercity-verbinding-met-a?fbclid=IwAR3hRlefwyMfSGwsiXeKDXcfttbzxpT1SV0eG0cnakL-7dDHRcWM9yzn7d4 and this happens only 3 times for 4 days per week.

Changing trains to Zaandam is a useless situation that takes nearly 20 minutes instead of the 2 minutes that would take the train if it stops at Purmerend.

Also, the buses help this situation, but it takes a lot more time and money for those using the NS subscriptions.

Yes, but it's the policy of the politians in the Amsterdam region to force you to take the bus.

The transfer in Zaandam takes two minutes (between the Sprinter Hoorn - The Hague Central and the IC Schagen/Alkmaar - Maastricht). The twenty minutes is only early in the morning and in the evening.

Thank you for your kind confirmation. For the rest of the day, a direct connection would save us at least 7-10 minutes to Amsterdam central and more if we want to travel to Utrecht.

Please report these to the NS employees responsible for this and help us have a better way of life with our daily transport use.

@VIRM

An additional problem is that the sprinter to/from Purmerend runs very infrequently outside office hours.

Why?

Apparently they want you to take the bus but as always, the vast majority of people (also those in Purmerend) greatly prefer a direct train connection. Walking, cycling or taking a short busride to a Purmerend station and then a direct train connection.

So why not aim to restore that in a daily 30 (or 60) minute interval?

A few months ago I traveled from Amsterdam CS to De Rijp and back . The bus drives through Purmerend but it does neither stop at any of the trains station there, nor in the direct vicinity. I guess they want to make it unattractive to travel to Purmerend by train and then take an easy busconnection, they want you to take the long direct bustrip from Amsterdam CS instead.

Furthermore: Purmerend “central” station has a (quite useless) busstop but with (surprisingly) only two lines (one to Edam/Volendam and a very infrequent and slow one to de Rijp (minibus).

Also, on the weekends, a connection from Purmerend to Amsterdam is only one train per hour.
