I can't even count the number of times I forgot to check in (or out) or accidentally checked out twice because the check-in gates at Den Haag CS are permanently open.

Every other Dutch train station I've been to has closed gates (Utrecht, Almere, Leiden, etc.) - so when will that happen in Den Haag? 😅

This question has been asked several times.

The initial plan was to only place gates when the platforms and tracks of track 7 and up were changed. Platforms would become shorter near the gates and longer the other way. That would create space to walk through from all gates instead of now having to go through the gates to go the platforms 1 - 7 from 8 - 10.
This would take place in 2019 of 2020.

I'm wondering when this will happen now, if ever. This seems to be pushed back everytime. Now looks set for 2024.

Hi eroka, welcome to the NS Community!

First thing tomorrow morning I'm going to call Den Hague Central and ask why this is, alright? I'll let you know.

Eindhoven gates 25% open until recently, because the city council wanted that (even though NS wanted them already closed from 2016 or so). Eventually, NS won the game..

So now there is a huge problem with people wanting to go from one side of the station to the other side (bus side to downtown.. the alternative is to go walk through the dirty and dark Vestdijk tunnel!) or put €20 on an ov-chipcard, or order a passage on your ov-chipcard, or buy some non-travel ticket at a machine.

How the ¼^5¦¥ would visitors/tourists know that? And assistance at the station is pretty minimal, yet present at least.

Better open the gates again, because closed gates don't hold back any criminals or whatever. They might hinder them, to no avail at all.
That would be great, thank you Emma 😄

Robert, I can see how this would be a problem for stations that form a sort of connection between two parts of the city (Leiden comes to mind also). Den Haag CS though has a better system in my opinion where you can walk through the station freely, but (if the gates are closed) can't enter the train tracks!

The problem at Den Haag CS is with platform 8/9. There are only a few gates for that platform and when a full intercity train arrives and everybody need to go through the gates there is a long queue. When the gates were installed in 2017 it was planned to have them closed end of that year, later it was said they would be closed in 2018 but somewhere I read the fire department would not give permission to do that because of safety risks.
I got the same answers as Robert B and Momo, do you have more questions about this?
