Hi there,

I have a Dal vrij subscription. I need to travel to Maastricht tomorrow morning from Nijmegen. My first train is via Arriva, do I need to check in with my NS ovchipkart at the Arriva stall or enter via NS stall and would I be charged if the travel is in off peak hours by Arriva?

Thanks in advance

Your Dal Vrij subscription is also valid with other train operators like Arriva, but you need to use the appropriate check-in pole or gate. So if you travel from Arnhem to Apeldoorn via Zutphen, you need to check in at an NS gate in Arnhem, check out at an NS pole on the platform in Zutphen, check in at an Arriva pole on the platform in Zutphen, and check out at an Arriva gate in Apeldoorn.

Pretty much all trains are covered by your Dal Vrij subscription, also Arriva and RRReis trains. Exceptions are international trains that require a special ticket, and you need to buy a supplement for the Intercity direct service between Schiphol and Rotterdam.

Note that it is the time you check in that determines whether or not you travel for free or have to pay the full fare, not the time of travel. If you check in during off-peak hours in Arnhem, then the entire journey is free (assuming you have NS Flex Dal Vrij, which is probably the case since the non-Flex subscription isn't sold any more).

Hello,

I have a Dal vrij subscription. I need to travel Apeldoorn from Arnhem Central. My second train is via Arriva, do I need to check in with my NS ovchipkart at the Arriva stall or enter via NS stall and would I be charged if the travel is in off peak hours by Arriva?

To clarify the message above, make sure to check in at an Arriva gate in Nijmegen. I am assuming you are taking the Arriva train to Roermond, and then an NS Intercity from Roermond to Maastricht? In that case, you have to check out at an Arriva pole and check in at an NS pole in Roermond. Finally, in Maastricht, you'd have to check out at an NS pole again.

When you are traveling with Arriva you do need tot check in and out at an Arriva pole. You always need to check in and out with the same company you are traveling with.

Arriva is free with an incheck during off-peak hours as well and you will not be charged. It works the same as with NS. The only exceptions are Thalys and Eurostar, you cannot use these trains with Dalvrij.
