i'd like a refund as i had to buy another ticket and so this one will remain unused.

Is the unused ticket an e-ticket? If so, unfortunately this cannot be refunded when you opened the ticket already. It is not possible to see if this ticket is used or not.

Other tickets may be refundable. You can contact the NS Customerservice by calling 030-751 51 55 (24/7 available). At this community travellers try to help other travellers, but we cannot view each other’s data.
