Hello, I need to catch a flight from Schiphol next Wednesday morning, so I had already booked a train ticket from (Kaldenkirchen-) Venlo to Amsterdam. With the strikes announced now, can I use my existing ticket to take a train on late Tuesday instead?

NS made the official announcement in the app that the only trains running in the affected area, will be running 4 times an hour between Amsterdam Central and Schiphol.

I think you can call the customer service to ask if they are willing to change the ticket to tuesday. I guess there is no other possibility to come to Schiphol on the day of the strike.

See https://www.ns.nl/en/featured/recommended/strike-compensation.html (that page is old but new text added to exempt NS from liability)

But go ahead and ask Customer Service for an option to reach Schiphol Airport on Tuesday (with sleepover expenses at your own cost).

Page says Wednesday, September 11, 2024 but should apply to Wednesday, November 13 equally.

A refund is not needed, a new ticket (or coupon/voucher) for Venlo - Schiphol on Tuesday is sufficient (the validity date of the current ticket cannot be changed).

Surely, if you buy a new ticket for Tuesday (today), you'd like to have the ticket for Wednesday refunded. And that should be possible still today.

True, but NS Customer Service prefers coupon codes over refunds, so you don’t have to pay for a new ticket.

Like returning a defective product, we will send you a new one for free and just give the defective product to the courier service for return.

I'm not sure if they'd do that for a ticket bought elsewhere. You'd have to ask that.

On the same page you can read this:

The NS strike scheme only applies in the event of organised industrial action by NS staff making NS's train transport services entirely impossible.

So I'm guessing that wouldn't work either...
