NS,

Do you even think about the possibilities to integrate revised train timetable with other modes of transport (bus, tram, etc.)? Or you just do it and find it fun looking at people waiting to catch the next bus after 25 minutes.

Starting 14 Nov, NS introduced a revised time table “silently” and it seems that analysts at NS did not care about what possible implications it may have on the daily travelers. As a daily commuter between Den Haag Laan van NOI - Lisse, a good connection has been turned into a disaster. See below:

As on 14 Nov, it was

With a sufficient transfer time of 7 minutes at Sassenheim, it was a breeze to transfer. But NS had different plans. Starting 18 Nov 2024, NS changed it like below:

Can somebody from NS tell me that with 3 minutes, it is really possible to transfer to a bus at Sassenheim? With a “good” track record, it’s never surprising that most of the times, this 3 minute transfer becomes 2 or even 1 minute.

Please be a bit more realistic and practical. Do you homework before you adapt, it is not too difficult to integrate with other carriers.

Normally when temporarily timetable changes are made for construction work bus connections are not taken into account.

Lots of buses from Sassenheim Station to Lisse, Meer en Duin.

It's not a city center, but the countryside.

Not all forms of transportation offer smooth transfers, and ensuring a seamless transfer is typically the responsibility of buses, metros, and trams, as trains often have tight schedules due to bridge operating times and freight operations.

Yes that is fine, but with the revised time table, it is practically impossible to catch the bus at 08:16 anymore. Then somebody who is reaching at 8:13 has to wait another 20 minutes to catch the bus at 08:33.

By the way, the train that reaches now at 08:13 is the same train that used to reach before at 08:05. It is stopping additional 8 min. at Leiden central for whatever reason it may be.

My point here is that it is fine if one of the modes of transport is revised, but the whole point of OV is to have an integrated network which provides adequate connectivity from point A to point B efficiently.

And then all of us are talking about sustainability by using more of public transport. Why would people prefer OV if only it is adding to longer travel times plus increased costs. By doing a cost benefit analysis, travelling with car is always faster and cheaper.

Probably that’s what happens by bringing in different operators per region (NS, Arriva, HTM, RET etc...) Everyone runs their own timetable that suits them.

As said before, these changes are temporarily because of construction work at Schiphol Airport. Until 2027 this will repeat itself a couple of times.
