I ordered the Abonnement NS-Flex together with a OV-Chipkaart however when I tried to buy a ticket for the train it said I needed to order the flex Abonnement  (and in the email i got nothing was said about needing to activate the Abonnement) and on my account flex is listed as already subscribed to.

What do you mean with “trying to buy a ticket”? With a Flex abonnement you can not buy e-tickets with discount, you need to use the OV-chipcard to check in and out at the gates or poles at the station.
