Dear people, I don't know exactly how this works. On Monday I am going to live in Holland, I would like to know if I have understood everything correctly and if you have any questions.

The Bestel NS Flex Dal Forgericht subscription serves for all public transport outside peak hours, but do I have to apply for a physical card and recharge it? Or do I have to add my debit card in the app and the discount is made automatically? What are car-sharing and how does it work? I don't understand about the OV-Chip Personal card, what is it for? Is it any different to the Bestel Ns Flex Tal Forgericht subscription?

It looks like autocorrect changes Voordeel en Forgericht.

Currently subscriptions like Dal Voordeel can only be used with a personalised OV-chipkaart. You will have to upload a photo when you don’t have a personal OV-chipkaart already.

When you take out a subscription like Dal Voordeel NS and you don’t already have OV-chipkaart offers you the personalised OV-chipkaart for free. It will take about a week to process your details and you will receive the card in the mail.

With the NS Flex Dal Voordeel you basically pay for all your use of public transport through a monthly invoice that you will pay automatically through a standing order.

You only get 40% off on train journeys. You will pay full fare on buses, trams and metros.

You can also link your OV-chipkaart with the car sharing company Greenwheels: https://www.ns.nl/en/door-to-door/shared-car/greenwheels.html

Wihtout a subscription, you can use a credit/debit card. Just tap in and out as you go, you will be billed the next day.

If you would also like to have a subscription to travel for a reduced price (during off peak hours) on other public transport (bus, tram and metro) you can get rhis from another party but you should ask NS to remove the part of NS Flex for those services from your card first. Until then NS will send you an invoice for all public transport and disregard any other subscriptions.

Keep in mind that almost all public transport pricing is distance based and operator based.

So when using a credit card, debit card or OV-chipkaart, always tap out after a journey.

When transfering between operators, first tap out the old one and then tap in the new one.

Dear Pieter van Ypres,

I do not understand what you mean by operators, remove the card and touch the old one and then the new.

Dear Mark,

What do you mean upload a photo while I get the card?

Dear Pieter van Ypres,

I do not understand what you mean by operators, remove the card and touch the old one and then the new.

"Operator" equals "Transport Operating Company".

For example: When you transfer from a NS train to an Arriva train, you have to first check out from NS, and then check in to Arriva.

Dear Mark,

What do you mean upload a photo while I get the card?

You need to upload a photo of your face before you can receive an OV-chipkaart, this photo will be on your OV-chipkaart so the conductor can check if the card holder is really you and you aren't just sharing your card with someone else.

If I am correct the uploading will be done while ordering an OV-chipkaart.

There are no hard requirements for the photo, as long as your face is clear it is all good!
