Hello TanyaYa, welcome at our community,

You can top up your balance at the station with cash. You can also order this online. Online you can pay with iDEAL, Creditcard, PayPal, Mister Cash and Sofort Bank.

Welcome,

I used to have a Lithuanian (Revolut) IBAN bank account (with a VISA card) that worked fine, even for subscriptions.

At machines, all VISA, Maestro, Cirrus, Mastercard and V pay credit/debit cards should work. Look for one of the logos on your card.

Thank you all for the replies!

I have only one more question- do I need to activate somehow new OV-chipcard to use it for the train trip? I read on some sites that activation for train is needed.

Or it will be enough if I just pick-up my balance (if I top-up online)

Thank you!

A very long time ago, you needed to activate an ov-chipcard to travel by train but that is a thing of the past. Just load some balance and you are good to go.

When ordering balance online via https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/en/order-credit you can pick it up at any service point (station, supermarkets) but since you have to go to a machine anyway, don’t bother ordering balance online for yourself.

A good alternative (with a personal card, never have to go to a machine again) is automatic top-up, see https://www.ov-chipkaart.nl/en/automatic-reload (€10 is preferred).

In case you travel using an anonymous OV-chipkaart (no subscription discounts possible, peak rate, 2nd class seat), then try direct bank card OV check-in and check-out. See ovpay.nl .

Beware of currency conversion costs collected by your Lithuanian bank.

LT is al 20 jaar euro-zone https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithuania_and_the_euro dus 3.45280 litai = €1 en niets meer of minder.

So no worries there (about any conversion fees) @TanyaYa, or maybe a very slight amount charged by your bank.

Traveling with your LT bank card simply works, if (contactless) paying for anything like in a supermarket works in NL 😅

Good day!

If possible, I have one more question.

Can I buy NS Flex subscriptions with a non-Dutch bank card? As far as I understood from the Internet, I can do it at the Train station offices.

Probably, you also know whether there are additional payments for that?

I know, that also a personal Ov-chipkaard is needed for that.

Thank you!

Once you have the personal ov-cipcard, ordering a subscription should work with any IBAN that supports SEPA direct debit.

Ordering online needs iDeal payment (which not many non-Dutch banks support), but it's always possible via NS Customer Service (phone, chat) contact. A (free) Revolut account supports iDeal as well.

From what I see at the Revolut help pages, Ideal only works if you have a Revolut Business account or if you are domiciled in The Netherlands.

Otherwise, this backward system is only available to the inboorlingen.

I've used iDeal with my (non-business) Revolut card a number of times. Including with NS.

And where is your formal fiscal address ?

Not in the Netherlands.

Thanks. I’ll have a try at it as well. Not with NS: you just wrote in another thread that they just delete Revolut from their Ideal-list.

Revolut and N26 are not available (anymore) when ordering a subscription, but for e-tickets they work. Seems that direct debit (incasso) is a problem or risk, although I don’t see why it should be.
