Hi, I wonder if I can get off during the journey and then get on a train to finish the journey if I buy a day return ticket? For example, I want to go to B from A and then return, can I get off at C which is between A and B, and then get on at C to B, and then return from B to A? Thanks!

Yes, but only if C is on the direct route from A to B. Detours are not allowed.
