Me and my husband booked an international train ride from Amsterdam to Paris on September 9th, and due to the train strikes we couldn’t go to Paris this weekend. Which is extremely frustrating to begin with. We tried to find other modes of transportation but it wasn’t possible at such late notice, and hence we couldn’t get a refund on our hotels either. We tried every solution including trying to change dates of the hotel, but the strike notice was just too last minute. How do we get compensation for our hotel booking (500+ EUR) due to the strike?

You don't get an compensation for the hotel booking, you only can get a compensation for the train. You have to claim it at the point you bought the tickets.
