Hello, on the morning of 30/12/2024, I forgot to check in for the Groningen to Maarhees flight. The service employee asked me many questions, including where I was staying. She said that I would only write down a fine of 50 euros.. but she wrote down a fine of 108.80 euros! Why this stupid behavior and disgusting selfishness? This is how the employees of the train company are trained.. To this day I do not have a tax number due to the excessive democracy in this country. That's why I am upset; if it had been done in cash, I would have bought most of the train shares!

The question is where can I pay the fine in cash, gentlemen?

We would like to have some kind of cash payment facility for me or for people who do not have a tax number. Until we get that alleged number, we must work for one or two consecutive years to pay the accumulations provided by you and the rest of the partners in the country!

Best regards and a Happy New Year to all.

You cannot pay in cash.

€108,80 = the fine from €50 + the cost from travelling Groningen-Maarheeze.

Hi AALSULTAN! Welcome to the NS Community.

If you don't have a valid travelling ticket (no e-ticket/not checking in), then you will receive a fine. As MoDe has stated, this fine is €50.00 which is added to the original costs of the journey that you've made. In your case this results in an amount of €108.80. You can contact the Customer Service if you have any questions on how to pay this fine.

It is quite normal and you cannot pay in cash. It is the Dutch law and what you are writing is a judgement without any ground. You may want a cash payment but in a modern developed country it mostly does not work that way anymore.

Take 108 euro in cash, handle  it to a friend with a bank account and let him pay for you, with the data on your fine. Maybe Customer Service has alternatives as Floor stated - and do not insult the way you did.  There is no need to.

Stupid behavior? Disgusting selfinishniss?  This is how the employees of the train company are trained? Excessive democracy?

This country is not inferior, neither the behavior of its people. This woman is eligible to do this, she even has to, as you broke the law of this ‘excessive’ democracy and travelled without paying for your train ride..  Women do have equal rights, it is wise to get used to it.

Forgot to check in? Maybe, but you definitely omitted to. You should have paid for your journey, and you did not, that is the problem.

Groningen - Maarheeze is just € 29,40 (which is the maximum fare for a single journey), so it should have been € 79,40.

It seems that @AALSULTAN got a day ticket, which is € 58,80, instead of just a ticket for Groningen - Maarheze.

If there are any questions about the amount of the fine or the payment of this fine, then AALSULTAN can contact the Customer Service. We cannot draw any conclusions based on one side of the story.

مع أطيب التحيات وسنة جديدة سعيدة للجميع.

You should use your translating machine. Dutch and English are allowed here. Of course we can translate as well. There is no need to use Arabic. I do wish you the same but without insulting and degrading people. You are not superior, your language not as well, nor inferior in this prosperous and  well caring constitutional democracy.

Private citizens don't have tax numbers in The Netherlands, nor do you need one for electronic payment. It is unclear to me what kind of number you would need for electronic payment that you can't get within two years.

If you really can't make an electronic payment yourself nor have friends or family that can do this for you as suggested above companies like Western Union should also be able to make an electronic payment for you if you pay them the amount to transfer and a fee in cash.

@Olav93

I guess @AALSULTAN is staying at the infamous center for asylumseekers in Maarheeze. In that case he might not have a BSN number needed for opening a bankaccount.

That's most likely, but for traveling (to family) they hand out day passes with of course the need to check-in. The conductor probably noticed that the pass also wasn’t used for the outward journey, so issued a day pass through the UvB with a 50 euro surcharge. The day pass from COA can be still be used on another day, or sell it to pay part of your fine.

And democratic probably meant bureaucratic 🙂

Who do you mean in a modern state that lacks the simplest necessities of daily life by granting a tax number? How can anyone get a bank account or rent a house, etc., without a tax number? Taking care of open prisons. Is this what you consider progress and civilization!!

Without any conclusions I decided to pay the fine but I do not have a bank account can you explain the method please thank you

According to immigration services (IND) asylumseekers can get registered in the BRP and get a BSN after at most 6 months (if procedures haven't advanced further by then), this does not require a job (unless that is the only reason for not being deported out of the country perhaps when there is no ground for asylum perhaps) nor working "for one or two consecutive years".

Better explain first your residence status in the Netherlands.

That makes it easier to understand your situation.

It's not like sitting on the internet and watching stuff that doesn't concern me, so I'm fine.

There is no official procedure to pay in cash, NS does not support this, and yes, that is legal in The Netherlands. Like suggested before you could ask a friend you pay in cash to make the transfer for you or use a service like Western Union.

The ‘tax number’ mentioned is of course a BSN (social security number), and needed to open a (Dutch) bank account.

Of course you can also use a bank account from your country of origin to pay a bill, just like using a foreign credit/debit card to pay in a store, restaurant, transport, etc.

We are trying to answer your question here, so it does concern you and it seems like you misunderstood something. A tax number has nothing to do with getting a bank account and the number that does, a BSN, should be available to much quicker and independent of having a job unless your job is part of the reason you can migrate to The Netherlands, hence your residence status is relevant to try to understand why you seem to be unable to pay online and advice on what you can do about that.
