Deactivate an old card, how?

I've been holding onto an old personal NS card I have, and it has money in its balance. I've been wanting to refund it however I can by Deactivating, refunding or terminating but it would result in:

- There's too much balance in the card (according to the customer service desk) so it cannot be simply refunded.

- Terminating the card doesn't work because apparently the date of birth this card is assigned to is wrong.

- Calling customer service doesn't help either with refunding because my last name isn't in the database.

It's not my highest priority to get my money back, but I'd still like to resolve it entirely. Is there a way for me to resolve this?

Hello Tram_Adam, welcome at our community,

If the tip from Robert doesn't work then you need to reach the customer service of the OV-chipcard. They are responsible for the OV-chipcard and the balance on the card.

I have tried, but it doesn't refund all the money, I'd rather it deactivates/ gets terminated

It should also refund all your money. What makes you think it doesn't?

Some things have changed.

In the past, you could get (only the full) balance back at a service desk with a maximum of 30 euros. If you had more, you would need to send the card to TLS/OV-chipkaart (if it was not expired).

The 30 euro maximum was because the service desks didn’t have much cash money, but today it’s not a problem to do a ‘reverse PIN’ transaction to a bank card, for whatever amount.

This also makes it possible to refund any balance from a valid (not expired) ov-chipkaart online. You just need to go to a machine at a station or Primera or some other stores to pick it up (have it removed from your card).

No more need to send in your card and have it termintated, but go ahead if you prefer that.
