NS 40% discount for 3 travel companions

I have bought a NS personal Ov Chiipcard with 40% discount for weekends and off-peak hours. On the website it says "40% discount for 3 travel companions". How it works? I just buy the tickets for me and my friend/s and show my Ns Card to the ticket controller on board and that's it?

When you want to travel you have to check in with your card between 9.00 -16.00 and 18.30 - 6.30 hour and voor your friends you can buy a ticket at the cardmachine on the station with 'samenreiskorting' or on the website www.ns.nl . You only have discount when you are traveling in the Netherlands with your card.

Tot een aantal jaar geleden frequente reiziger. Reizen met de trein is minder leuk geworden

For international tickets you can select joint travel discount for your friends at www.nsinternational.nl. For yourself you can select discount on NS route.

Keep in mind that you only travel with discount on international tickets after 9 am. https://support.nsinternational.nl/app/answers/detail/a_id/9913/kw/Samenreiskorting/related/1

For national routes you have to travel on your subscription to give your friends the discount.
With an international eticket you don't have to check in with your chip card. You do need to take your chip card with you to show you are entitled to the discount.

@MoDe,

The card machine doesn't sell national tickets with a discount. The friends can travel with a discount on an anonymous chip card after loading combined travel discount.

Recently NS added etickets with combined travel discount. With this eticket you can't be in a train during rush hours.
